PERS of Mississippi administers pension and other benefits for employees of substantially all public employers in the state, including employees of the state, universities and colleges, public school teachers and other school district employees, and employees of political subdivisions that have elected to participate. The System administers separate plans for highway patrol officers, a closed plan for firefighters and police officers, and a plan for legislators.
