TRA of Minnesota administers retirement and other benefits for most of the state's public school teachers, administrators, and state college faculty. Teachers employed in Minnesota’s public elementary and secondary schools, charter schools, and certain educational institutions maintained by the state (except those teachers employed by the city of St. Paul and by the University of Minnesota system) are required to be TRA members. State university, community college, and technical college teachers first employed by the Minnesota State College and Universities (MnSCU) may elect TRA coverage within 90 days of first employment. Alternatively, these teachers may elect coverage through the Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCR) administered by MnSCU. TRA assets are managed by the State Board of Investment.
